Biking is something everyone enjoys. Whether you’re in the African bush, or the streets of Siagon…or your local neighborhood…you’ll always find someone riding a bike. And with someone riding a bike, you’ll almost always also end up finding someone who’s got a dreaded flat tire. Well, Topeak tries to help this situation by making the Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump, a mini pump that packs a ton of punch!
With increasing tire sizes, like found on the large 29′er bikes these days, many pumps small enough to fit into your bike bag or small enough to hold on the frame of your bike are almost a laughable joke when it comes to actually inflating a tire from a complete flat. Most will do a decent job of topping off your tires, but full on inflation takes an energy sucking long time to get anything done. With the Road Morph G, however, you’ll find yourself taking about 3 minutes to get a 700c x 40 tire from flat to 70psi, which is easily noted by the in-line pressure gauge that is easily read and fairly accurate. After inflating a tire to 40, 55, and 70psi according to the inline gauge, I checked the pressure with a digital gauge, all were within 5%…enough accuracy for my purposes at least!
It’s simple to use as well, the chuck extends fromt he pump with a short hose, then attaches to either Presta or Schrader valves easily, locking into place with a flick of the lever on the top. Then, a simple tug at the T-handle and you’ll find yourself ready to pump up the tire in a pretty comfortable fashion. To make it even easier, there’s a small foot peg at the bottom that folds out as well, allowing you to help stabilize the pump with your foot if needed. The short hose is a great addition to the pump, allowing you to keep pressure off of the valve stem, something that I’ve had problems with damaging the tube in the past by putting too much lateral pressure on the valve.
After pumping for awhile, you’ll need to keep an eye on the pressure, the pump will allow you to inflate your tires up to 160psi before showing any problems…I don’t want a tire blowout at 160psi when my face is a foot away! The 90 gram Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump is a solid choice for many cycling gurus, weighing in at .49 pounds it’s not so heavy that you can justify leaving it at home. Yes, there are lighter ones out there…the Lezyne Road Drive Pump comes to mind as a pretty light weight option as well…but this is a fast, efficient way to pump up your tires on the go, without spending much time alongside the road!
